Albertsons waives Rx delivery fees

Albertsons is making several prescription delivery options free during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure patients have access to their medication. The company has waived fees for same-day and next-day prescription deliveries, as well as mail deliveries, through May 1. One- and two-hour rush deliveries will continue to have delivery fees.

“We are waiving prescription delivery fees to help our customers manage their medication needs during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, which can make it challenging for people to visit our stores,” said Mark Panzer, Albertsons senior vice president of pharmacy health and wellness. “This step is in line with our mission at Albertsons Cos. to take care of our patients, help them achieve their health and wellness goals, and secure the best care available.”

The company’s delivery is offered through partner ScriptDrop. "Albertsons' Co. has been a trusted and valued partner for ScriptDrop over the last few years," said Nick Potts, CEO of ScriptDrop. "We're proud of their decision to offer waived delivery fees to their patients and honored to be a part of the solution to keep patients healthy during this stressful time."

Albertsons said this is the latest effort from the company to address COVID-19. So far, the company and its foundation have pledged $3 million and started a fundraiser to feed families in need. It also has added dedicated shopping hours for seniors and other at-risk populations and begun adjusting store hours to ensure associates have the time they need to restock shelves. Additionally, it has implemented “contact-free” delivery procedures, allowing delivery drivers to sign for customers when delivering orders.

The company said it would reevaluate delivery pricing after May 1 based on developments with the COVID-19 outbreak.
