Bartell Drugs supporting local seniors hit the hardest by the coronavirus pandemic with a senior supply drive. The Seattle-based retailer also is encouraging its shoppers to support local restaurants and business impacted by the pandemic.

Bartell's supply drive is meant to help homebound and homeless seniors, who are experiencing a combination of isolation and uncertainty. They are afraid to go out and lack essential items to feel safe and cared for during this time. Donations collected from now through May 9 will be delivered to local seniors by Sound Generations, the Meals on Wheels transportation service.

“We have been looking for a way to support the senior community, who has always been so loyal to Bartell’s," said Kathi Lentzsch, Bartell Drugs president and CEO. "Our customers generally tend to be very compassionate and Seattle-centric. We believed they would gladly join us in contributing to this drive as they are also concerned about the local at-risk population. Two days in, we are off to an impressive start."

In partnership with Aegis Living and Seattle Seniors Strong, Bartell’s encourages those who are able, to make a donation in person at all store locations or online. For information regarding requested essential items or to make a donation online, click here.

When it comes to championing local businesses, Bartell’s is offering a chance on Facebook to win $25 gift cards for highlighted restaurants and retailers that can be used now or after the stay-at-home requirement is lifted.

“Being a locally-owned business here in the Pacific Northwest, we care so much about our friends and neighbors in the communities we serve. It’s a tough time for everyone right now, including our local restaurants. We’re thrilled to offer some promotion and support for those around the Sound, while also rewarding our customers and fans at the same time,” said Evelynn Merrill, Bartell’s director of digital marketing.

Northwest neighbors are encouraged to enter to win and to continue to support community partners through these trying times. The contest ends April 19.
