LOS ANGELES — Xyrena is honoring the late singer Aaliyah with its newest scent. Developed in collaboration with the singer’s mother and brohther, Aaliyah by Xyrena hits shelves 14 years after her death in a plane crash in the Bahamas.
“I grew up with Aaliyah's music," Xyrena CEO Killian Wells said. “As a huge fan, this is a very personal release for me and my company. We set out to create a fragrance to be cherished by Aaliyah's fans and also introduce her to a new generation.”
The unisex fragrance is black-hued to reflect the singer’s favorite color with base notes of sandalwood, vanilla jasmine and amber; middle nots of leather, violet and black pepper; and top notes of mint lavender and mandarin, the company said.
“It has been wonderful working with Xyrena to create an incredible fragrance that embodies the beauty, mystery, and creativity that my sister infused into every aspect of her life,” Aaliyah’s brother Rashad Haughton said.
The scent is available on Xyrena’s website for pre-order, with shipments beginning in mid-October. The company said that 5% of the perfume’s gross sales will benefit the Aaliyah Memorial Fund.
