P&G, GSK Consumer Healthcare, other brands among Product of the Year winners

NEW YORK — The 2017 Product of the Year Award winners, chosen from a national survey of 40,000 consumers conducted by Kantar TNS, were announced Friday, and some big-name brands are among those honored at the Feb. 9 awards show in New York City’s Edison Ballroom. 

 

“Competition is fierce among consumer brands, with thousands of new products introduced to the market each year,” Mike Nolan, CEO of Product of the Year USA, said. “This year's winners will have a true advantage over competitors as they are able to utilize the distinctive red Product of the Year logo on packaging and in brand advertising to show shoppers that 40,000 consumers recommend their product against the competition.”

 

Product of the Year takes entries from new consumer products launched in the previous year that demonstrate innovation in a particular category, with one product winning the entire category. Among this year’s winners were such brands as Carmex, whose Comfort Care Lip Balm won in the lip care category; GSK Consumer Healthcare’s Sensodyne True White, which won in the oral care category; Procter & Gamble’s Charmin Essentials Soft, which won in the bath tissue category; and sweetener category winner Splenda Naturals. 

 

Recent research from Kantar TNs found that Product of the Year USA winners outperform category performance by 38.1% and that coupon redemption consideration increased 24% when the Product of the Year logo is featured in a free-standing insert.
