Report: P&G’s Olay Professional Pro-X is clinically proven to improve appearance of wrinkles
CINCINNATI Procter & Gamble's Olay Professional Pro-X regimen, which launched in early 2009, clinically improves the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles, as well as the leading prescription wrinkle regimen, 0.02% tretinoin, according to the results of a clinical trial published in the British Journal of Dermatology.
"We believe this is the first of its kind clinical study comparing a cosmetic anti-aging regimen against a recognized prescription topical treatment for improving the appearance of facial wrinkling," stated Joe Kaczvinsky, PhD, principal scientist at P&G Beauty & Grooming and a lead author of the study. "Having this study published in a prestigious peer-reviewed journal is a testament to the significance of these findings."
The study involved 196 women and showed that more than half of the subjects using Olay Professional Pro-X Intensive Wrinkle Protocol were judged to look better for visible wrinkle reduction compared with subjects using the 0.02% tretinoin regimen after eight weeks of treatment. Furthermore, the Olay Professional Pro-X regimen reduced visible facial wrinkle size by 17%, compared with 11% by 0.02% tretinoin regimen after eight weeks of treatment.
Some clinical trial participants continued to use their respective regimens for a total of 24 weeks. Both groups continued to improve, showing a more than 20% reduction, on average, in fine lines and wrinkles.
"The expansion of Olay into the professional skin care segment with the launch of Olay Professional Pro-X demonstrates P&G Beauty & Grooming’s ongoing commitment to cutting-edge scientific innovations that meet the evolving needs of women," stated Gina Drosos, president of Global Beauty & Grooming for P&G. "We are excited about taking our latest advancement in skin care to more parts of the work with the recent launch in China and Australia coming in March 2010."
In February 2009, P&G brought professional anti-aging skin care to the mass market with the launch of its new Olay Professional Pro-X line.
The line is inspired by genomics research and tools that show the importance of a healthy stratum corneum to the well being of the inner skin. P&G Beauty scientists have identified a combination of cosmetic ingredients and formulated them into cosmetic moisturizers that promise to protect and strengthen the stratum corneum in aged skin.
