Sephora to temporarily close for diversity training

6/4/2019

Sephora’s doors will be closed on the morning of June 5.

The beauty retailer announced via a Facebook video that its stores, along with distribution centers and corporate offices in the United States, will host an inclusion workshop for employees.

“On the morning of June 5, every Sephora store, distribution center and corporate office in the United States will close to host inclusion workshops for our employees. These values have always been at the heart of Sephora, and we’re excited to welcome everyone when we reopen,” the retailer states in the video’s caption.

In addition, the beauty retailer said that “Sephora believes in championing all beauty, living with courage and standing fearlessly together to celebrate our differences. We will never stop building a community where diversity is expected, self-expression is honored, all are welcomed and you are included.”

News of the inclusivity training comes on the heels of the brand also debuting its new “We Belong to Something Beautiful” campaign, which it said champions all beauty.

This news comes on the heels of singer SZA reporting via Twitter back in April that an employee of Sephora in Calabasas, Calif., had called security to ensure she wasn’t stealing.

Since then, Sephora has apologized to the singer. This isn’t the first time a retail store had closed its doors for an inclusion workshop. Starbucks previously did the same with employees in April of 2018.
