Tom Price confirmed as HHS Secretary

2/10/2017
WASHINGTON — Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to be America’s 23rd Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

“[Price] is uniquely qualified to lead HHS, which will oversee the potential repeal and replacement of the Affordable Care Act and possible reforms to the Medicaid program, among other high-profile priorities for America’s complex health system," suggested Douglas Hoey, CEO of the National Community Pharmacists Association. “While everyone shares the goal of finding ways to produce better health outcomes while reducing costs, NCPA and the more than 22,000 independent community pharmacies it represents will continue to push for common-sense, market-based, bipartisan reforms in our area of expertise – the delivery of critical prescription drug services to Americans.”

“CHPA congratulates Dr. Tom Price on his recent confirmation," stated the Consumer Healchare Products Association. "We are confident that Secretary Price believes, as do we, that Americans want to be empowered to make smart and effective healthcare choices and they want more self -care options, including OTC medicines."

Noting that Price will pay a key role in selecting the next commissioner for the Food and Drug Administration, the CHPA offered the following qualities embodying an ideal candidate: an ability to deal with complexity; decisiveness and a respect for risk; medical and scientific knowledge; passion for FDA’s mission; vision; and, accountability.
