Cefaly Technology touts OTC wearable medical device for migraine pain

Cefally Technology is offering Cefaly, an FDA-cleared, over-the-counter wearable medical device. According to the company, the device is clinically proven to relieve migraine pain and reduce frequency.

Noting that migraines impact 39 million people in the United States and that it is the third most common disease globally, Cefaly Technology said that its device had treated over 2 billion migraine attacks since 2008. 

In conjunction with National Migraine and Headache Prevention Month in June, Cefaly is shining a spotlight on Cefaly, noting that it treats and alleviates migraines, so no darkened rooms are required, no prescription is needed and there is no worrying about potential side effects from medication.

Cefaly, which is to be used while in a relaxed state, works by gradually desensitizing the trigeminal nerve, the company said.  

"Cefaly is a non-invasive, drug-free approach to help relieve migraine pain and decrease the number of migraine days. Worn on the forehead, Cefaly uses a mild electric current (e-TNS) to stimulate and desensitize the trigeminal nerve, the primary pathway for migraine pain," the company said.

According to Cefaly Technology, clinical studies showed that:

• 79% of acute migraine sufferers saw pain relief;
• 63% of patients saw significantly reduced migraine pain (more than 50%) following 60 minutes of Cefaly treatment; and
• 32% of acute migraine sufferers saw pain freedom.
