Big Chewy Nerds get a sour touch

3/22/2019
Big Chewy Nerds are about to get a whole new burst of flavor.

The Chicago-based company, which is part of the Ferrara Candy portfolio, announced the launch of its new Sour Big Chewy Nerds variety, which feature a sour chewy center that’s covered in a sweet and crunchy Nerds candy shell.

"Since Nerds launched Big Chewy Nerds last year, the product quickly became a fan-favorite due to its unique dual-texture and bold flavors," Kelly Peyser, Nerds senior brand manager said. "Additionally, it received the Most Innovative New Product Award in the non-chocolate category at the National Confectioners Association's, or NCA, 2018 Sweets & Snacks Expo in Chicago."

A bag of the new sour option of the candy, which is known for its small size and bold flavors, contains the brainiac blue raspberry, streaming strawberry lemonade, Wiki watermelon and blood orange byte varieties, the company said.

"After receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from consumers across the nation for our Big Chewy Nerds, it only made sense to take things up a notch with the introduction of Sour Big Chewy Nerds," Peyser said. "We are constantly looking for new ways to excite our fans, and are thrilled to satisfy not only sweet tooth cravings, but sour ones, too!"

Available in a 4.25-oz. concession box that retails for $1.09, 6-oz. medium bag for $1.99 and 10-oz. standup bag for $10, shoppers can find the brand's latest launch on the shelves of mass market, grocery and convenience stores nationwide beginning in April.
