There’s a new trend in the world of yogurt, and it's coconut cream.
Daiya, a brand that creates plant-based foods that also are free of dairy, gluten and soy, announced the launch of its new coconut cream yogurt cups.
Made with coconut cream, real fruit pieces and containing only 6 g of protein per serving, the cups are available in six varieties — strawberry, peach, blueberry, black cherry, vanilla bean and plain, the company said.
"Consumers are making more mindful choices when it comes to food, and we know that sugar reduction is a top priority for them," Michael Lynch, interim CEO at Daiya, said. "We found that the majority of fruit-based dairy-free yogurts had an average of 17 g of sugar per serving. We wanted our reformulated line of yogurt alternatives to be a delicious-tasting option for those looking to make an easy shift. Not only are Daiya's new yogurt cups both delicious and allergy friendly, the fruit flavors offer just 9 grams of sugar per serving — sweetened from real fruit pieces and all-natural sugar cane."
Daiya’s coconut cream yogurt cups are available at such retailers as Sprouts, Natural Grocers, Fresh Thyme and other locations across the United States, where they retail for $1.99 each.
"Our customers are just as passionate about food as we are at Daiya. We are always listening and working towards making the best tasting products on the market, and if that means reformulating our products to make them the best then that's what we do," Lynch said. "Plant-based food is evolving and growing as more people embrace this lifestyle, and we want them to know that Daiya is here to support them on this food journey."
