There’s a new way to enjoy smoothies, thanks to Dole.
The Westlake Village, Calif.-based company unveiled its new Dole Spoonable Smoothies, which are smoothie bowls that come in two options — Dole Whip Spoonable Smoothies Pineapple and Banana, and Spoonable Smoothies Strawberry Banana.
"What began as a trend with açai bowls has translated into a broader smoothie bowl trend. We're seeing them pop up all over Instagram and Pinterest as consumers hunt for a delicious new take on fruit for breakfast," Erin Fasano, the director of marketing of frozen at Dole Packaged Foods, said. "Recognizing consumer demand for a delicious, no-prep, no-mess smoothie option, we developed Dole Spoonable Smoothies to serve that need."
Designed to be eaten with a spoon, the Whip option contains 180 calories per serving, was inspired by pineapple soft-serve, and contains a thick smoothie base that is topped with pineapple, honey oat granola and coconut shavings.
In addition, the strawberry banana flavor features a fruity base that is topped with toasted granola, celebrates the flavors of a traditional smoothie and contains 170 calories per serving, the company said.
Found in the frozen foods section, Dole’s Spoonable Smoothies thaw in 35-to-45 minutes on the counter or in 30 seconds by microwave.
Both varieties will soon be hitting the shelves of such retailers as Ingle’s Market, ShopRite, Stop & Shop, Giant Eagle, Giant, Price Chopper, Albertsons and Safeway among others where it is to retail for $3.59 each.
