ROYAL OAK, Mich. — Meijer is making a new wave in the healthy eating trend.
The retailer has teamed up with Beaumont Health’s nutrition team to provide nutrition-specific health tours that promote healthy eating. The program began in early May and runs through August.
“This is where they come to make their decisions on what they’re going to be purchasing to cook for dinner,” Natalie Watha, a member of the Beaumont nutrition team, told WXYZ-TV. “So, this is a great place to bring consumers to educate them on healthy options.”
More than 45,000 food items are available to choose from inside the store, the series of tours is aimed at helping nutritious conscious shoppers navigate the stores for health choices. Tours begin at 10:30 a.m. on various dates that are already scheduled through Beaumont Health. Tours are free and open to the public.
Among the subjects discussed during the tours are heart-healthy foods, diabetes, weight management and gluten-free diets, the TV station reported.
