Raley’s ‘goes green’ in partnership with EPA GreenChill program

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. The privately owned supermarket chain Raley’s is teaming up with the Environmental Protection Agency in its GreenChill Advanced Refrigeration Partnership in which it has pledged to develop and enhance ozone-protecting practices.

Through the partnership, all of Raley’s new and remodeled stores will be free of ozone-depleting substances, and it plans on developing an emissions inventory in order to meet yearly goals in reducing refrigerant emissions. A refrigeration management plan will be established in which technologies, strategies and practices will be used to further meet goals.

“For a number of years, Raley’s has shared the EPA’s commitment to decreasing refrigerant emissions through efficient HVAC systems and proprietary store design,” said Ed Estberg, Raley’s senior director of facilities, in a statement. “This new partnership demonstrates our commitment to being an environmentally conscious retailer and supports our mission to be good stewards of the earth.”
