Shrooms launches mushroom snacks

2/14/2019
South Mill Champs, a mushroom producer in North America, is diving into the world of snacks by introducing consumers to Shrooms Snacks.

The product, created with mushrooms that are grown and handpicked on the South Mill farm in Kennett Square, Pa., looks to provide consumers with an alternative to their favorite snack.

"We saw an opportunity to create something new and authentic using our 80 years of mushroom growing experience," David Eberwein, the director of innovation & business development at Shrooms Snacks, said. "As the popularity of plant-based snacking continues to rise, we started thinking about ways to reinvent the mushroom to create convenient, better-for-you snacks that taste amazing and use the fresh, whole mushrooms we're growing and farming every day. After much development, we've created a line of snack products that are unlike anything else on shelves today, and we're excited to bring them to mushroom lovers everywhere."

Shrooms latest launches include:

  • Shrooms Crispy Mushrooms, which are made with thick-cut mushrooms and available in sea salt, spicy jalapeño, mesquite barbeque, pizza and original portabella varieties;

  • Shrooms Mushroom Jerky, which is made from shiitake and portabella mushroom caps, and comes in the honey chipotle shiitake, roasted teriyaki and original portabella flavors;

  • Shrooms Splits Jerky, which pairs marinated mushroom jerky made from portabella mushroom caps with such jerky varieties as turkey, berries, filet mignon and peppered beef that’s made from grass-fed USA-bred beef; and

  • Shrooms Snack Bar, which is made from crispy mushrooms and is available in a crispy mushroom chocolate chunk and crispy mushroom sweet and savory varieties.

"Mushrooms are experiencing a surge in popularity as people from all walks of life get smart about snacking," Lewis Macleod, the CEO of South Mill Champs said. "With more than 80 years of experience, we know mushrooms, so we're a natural fit to lead the development of this category of great tasting, better-for-you snacks. We really believe in this brand and product, and want to revolutionize how people think about mushrooms."

The snacks can currently be found for purchase on Amazon, and information on local retailers can be found on the company’s store locator on its website.
