FDA gives tentative nod for Alembic's generic Lastacaft

A new generic drug to help prevent itching in patients with allergic conjunctivitis will soon be available.

The Food and Drug Administration has given Alembic a tentative nod for alcaftadine ophthalmic solution, in a dosage strength of 0.25%.

The product is the generic of Allergan’s Lastacaft ophthalmic solution, 0.25%.

Alcaftadine ophthalmic solution is an H1 histamine receptor antagonist.

The product has a market value of roughly $7 million for the 12 months ended December 2019, according to IQVIA.
