Gardein puts plant-based twist on classic soups

The plant-based trend is hitting a brand new category — soup.

Say hello to a new version of such soup classics as chicken noodle and minestrone, thanks to Gardein.

The Chicago-based company is debuting not one, but five new soups that feature plant-based meat alternatives.

“For years, Gardein has been providing delicious foods that deliver the taste of meat in a plant-based offering,” Tim Nangle, Conagra Brands’ vice president and general manager for meals and sides, said. “With plant-based foods gaining broader acceptance, and with so many popular soups featuring meat on the market, extending Gardein into the soups category was a logical next step for the brand.”

Delivering 10 g to 15 g of protein per serving, each soup contains real vegetables and vegan broth bases, are free of eggs and dairy, and are both Non-GMO Project Verified and Vegan Action Certified, the company said.

Gardein’s new lineup includes:

• Plant-Based Chick’n Noodl’ with plant-based chick’n vegan noodl’s and vegetables;
• Plant-Based Be’f and Vegetable with plant-based be’f and country vegetables;
• Plant-Based Saus’ge Gumbo with plant-based saus’ge, rice and vegetables;
• Plant-Based Chick’n and Rice with plant-based chick’n, rice and vegetables; and
• Plant-Based Minestrone and Saus’ge with plant-based Italian saus’ge, vegan noodl’s and vegetables.

“Whether you’ve tried Gardein before or are sampling our food for the first time with these soups, we think you'll find the taste and texture delivers an experience like you'd find in a meat-based soup,” Nangle said.  

Gardein Soups are available at mass retailers and grocery stores nationwide in 15-oz. cans that retail for $2.99.
