Kroger’s QFC division debuts contactless payment pilot

8/10/2020

All across Kroger’s QFC division in Seattle, the company has begun to roll out contactless payments pilot.

Customers at these locations now are able to use their mobile devices to check out their purchases for a seamless experience, the company said.

The pilot is accepted at Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, FitBit Pay, mobile banking apps and contactless chip cards.

“QFC is excited to pilot contactless payments powered by NFC technology, providing our customers with an additional way to pay for their fresh food and household essentials,” Chris Albi, president of QFC, said. “The contactless payment solution will help make life easier for many of our customers and provide the freedom of choice among various options, including cash, debit, credit and check.”

Recently, Kroger’s technology team enabled NFC payments at 61 QFC stores. Shoppers are able to place their mobile devices or contactless chip cards near the PIN pad to have payment data transmitted from the device to the terminal in order for the transaction to be processed, the company said.

“Kroger continues to invest in innovative technologies that advance the customer experience, including our payment systems,” Kathy Hanna, Kroger's senior director of payments, said. “Providing our customers with flexibility — whether that means having the option to choose between shopping in store or online for groceries, or how you pay for them — we are committed to personalizing their shopping trip.”

Other contactless payments offered by Kroger include Kroger Pay; Scan, Bag, Go; and pickup and delivery services.
