Nambe Drugs brings AllerPops to shelves

Nambe Drugs, a family-owned pharmacy, announced that AllerPops would now be one of its offered products.

Created to correct the underlying cause of allergies instead of masking the symptoms, the product was created by Cliff Han, a biologist in the Los Alamos, N.M., National Lab.

By testing his own saliva and discovering that it was not junipers that caused allergies, but rather lack of friendly bacteria in the mouth, Han worked to create the product, the company said.

"I think it's going to be a very effective product. The people who suffer from allergies should give it a shot," Tom Lovett, registered pharmacist and the co-owner of Nambe drugs, said. "Any time you're treating the root cause of a problem, it's a good thing. This is a product that helps your body build up the probiotics that help you fight off the allergies."

An alternative to antihistamines and decongestants, AllerPops work after one treatment and do not cause serious side effects, the company said.

"I always say that the least amount of medication is the best," said Lovett. "One big drawback to antihistamines is that they cause side effects like dry mouth, drowsiness, and blurred vision. And when they are combined with decongestants, they can elevate your blood pressure."
