Affordable Care Act dealt second blow

1/13/2017

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. House of Representatives on Friday followed its U.S. Senate counterparts a week earlier, passing a budget resolution to draft a repeal bill that could overhaul or repeal the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.

“This is a critical first step toward delivering relief to Americans who are struggling under this law,” Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) said.

Several more steps must be taken before the repeal bill appears on President-elect Donald Trump’s desk however, including actually writing of the repeal bill, debating it on the Senate floor, and votes on the repeal bill by both the Senate and House.

According to news sources, the next step in the process is drafting of the repeal bill, expected by Jan. 27.

Discussing why Republicans hope to repeal and replace Obamacare, Ryan stated: “We are on a rescue mission from making Obamacare even worse.”
