CARLISLE, Pa. - Ahold USA will be providing a day of free health education and services, including health screenings and vaccination reviews, across 83 locations this Saturday, May 21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The complimentary screenings will be available at select locations across all of Ahold USA's banners, including Giant Pharmacy, Martin's and Stop & Shop. Ahold USA pharmacists will be on hand at each participating location to help facilitate the screenings.
"We make promises to our customers [and] one of them is to be a better neighbor," Bradley Dayton, VP pharmacy Ahold USA, told Drug Store News. "In today's healthcare environment, there's a shortage of primary care physicians [and] nurse practitioners," he added. "[Patients] come to our pharmacy for prescriptions and ask questions everyday about their general healthcare. This is an excellent vehicle to extend the services that we offer and be able to give something to our community."
The cost of the screenings are supplemented by co-sponors Ascensia Diabetes Care and Johnson & Johnson's Tylenol brand.
The screenings are a quarterly event for Ahold USA, and to date the supermarket chain has administered more than 12,000 screenings to over 5,000 patients. The screenings include tests for total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides, glucose and blood pressure. Pharmacists also asked a few simple questions to determine if participants are missing any recommended adult immunizations.
Ahold USA pharmacists administer almost 250,000 immunizations annually, including seasonal flu shots, pneumococcal vaccine, shingles, tetanus, pertussis and hepatitis B.
