Albertsons, Wegmans named EPA Safer Choice Partner of the Year 2017 winners

WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency has recognized two retailers in its annual Safer Choice Partner of the Year Awards. The recognition for 2017 went to Albertsons and Publix for their work promoting the Safer Choice Program to their customers.

“We're committed to our partnership with the EPA on this important initiative to ensure the safety and sustainability of the products that people use in their homes each day,” Albertsons SVP external affairs and chief diversity officer Jonathan Mayes said. "It is a true honor to receive the Safer Choice Partner of the Year Award and an honor to help consumers make safer choices every day."

The Safer Choice program draws on chemical and environmental expertise from the EPA to evaluate the environmental or human impact of every chemical ingredient in a product. Currently, more than 2,000 products qualify to carry the Safer Choice label.

The awards were created to recognize stakeholders who have worked to further the program. Awards will be presented during a May 15 public ceremony at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in Oxon Hill, Md.
