Amazon.com opens second N.J. fulfillment center

5/11/2015

CARTERET, N.J. — Amazon.com is looking to facilitate its same-day deliveries in Manhattan by opening its second 1 million-sq.-ft. fulfillment center in Carteret, N.J.

“We’re excited to open a new, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Carteret, creating hundreds of full-time jobs that offer wages 30 percent higher than traditional retail stores and include comprehensive benefits on day one, bonuses and stock awards,” said Mike Roth, Amazon’s vice president of North America operations. “New Jersey is a great state to do business and we are happy to be expanding there to serve customers in the region.”

Amazon opened its first 1 million-square-foot fulfillment center in Robbinsville, N.J., in July 2014. The company employs thousands of full-time employees at its Robbinsville fulfillment center and continues to hire to meet growing customer demand.

"Amazon is doubling down its investment in New Jersey, showing other companies the value of growing their business in the Garden State," said Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno. "This million-square-foot fulfillment center -- the second such facility here in New Jersey -- will create hundreds of full-time, permanent jobs: it's a win for Amazon and the State."

“We are very happy to welcome Amazon to Carteret,” said Mayor Daniel Reiman. “Amazon’s decision to locate here and make such a significant long term investment is recognition of our aggressive and ongoing redevelopment efforts. Amazon is the type of corporate partner that will help grow our local and regional economy, provide jobs and opportunity for our residents, and strengthen our expanding corporate tax base. We look forward to a long term working partnership.”

The company also has a 280,000-square-foot grocery warehouse in the Avenel section of Woodbridge, N.J., that Amazon uses as a base for its AmazonFresh service.
