WHIPPANY, N.J. — Bayer HealthCare on Monday launched Aleve PM, the first over-the-counter nighttime product with a safe sleep aid plus the 12-hour pain-relieving strength of Aleve for pain relief that can last until the morning.
Aleve PM is a two-pill dose. Each caplet contains naproxen sodium (220 mg), which can provide up to 12-hours of pain relief, and diphenhydramine HCl (25 mg), which is a sleep aid. The naproxen sodium in Aleve PM works by temporarily blocking the body's production of naturally occurring chemicals called prostaglandins. Prostaglandins play a direct role in pain.
"The launch of Aleve PM is an important milestone for Bayer HealthCare and represents our commitment to developing new, safe and effective over-the-counter products that address unmet consumer needs," said Laura Schwieterman, director of ALEVE. "Pain can not only delay the onset of sleep, it can cause frequent or early morning awakenings and prevent restful sleep. With Aleve PM, consumers can now benefit from the 12-hour pain-relieving strength of Aleve, plus a good night's sleep for a better morning."
