Blink Health rolls out generics savings site, app

2/10/2016

NEW YORK — A new company is looking to make generics cheaper for consumers, whether they have insurance or not. Blink Health on Wednesday officially launched its website and app following its beta launch in the fall of 2015.

Blink Health lets users search the site and app for their prescription, showing them a discounted Blink Health Price. Users can purchase their medication through the site or app, from which they then receive a coupon that they can print or show their pharmacist on their smartphone when they pick up the paid-for prescription. The service doesn’t require a monthly premium or membership fee, and patients can pick up their prescriptions through such major pharmacy chains as Walgreens, CVS, Walmart and Rite Aid, as well as most independent pharmacies.

“Nobody should ever be forced to skip a dose of medicine or leave a prescription behind at the pharmacy counter because they can't afford it,” Blink Health founder and CEO Geoffrey Chaiken said. “Our goal with Blink Health is to provide all Americans with the best prices for generic prescriptions, regardless of their insurance status. These prices have always existed for people with the best insurance plans, but Blink Health is making them accessible to all Americans for the first time.”

The company said it can secure lower prices by grouping users together and leveraging their collective purchasing power to purchase medication at a discount. According to Blink, about half of the medications on their site costs $10 or less and 40% cost less than $5.
