Boehringer Ingelheim's Robert Belknap honored with 2013 Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research, HDMA’s nonprofit research foundation, and Genentech on Tuesday honored Robert Belknap, executive director of trade sales and operations for Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, with the 2013 Nexus Award for Lifetime Achievement.


With more than 30 years’ experience in the consumer goods, pharmaceutical and specialty pharmacy industries, Belknap has participated in more than 20 pharmaceutical product launches, including Protonix, Pradaxa and Enbrel, and has led numerous pharmacy marketing efforts in all classes of trade. He also has a reputation for building consensus among key supply chain stakeholders.

Belknap’s career began at the Dial Corporation, where he was responsible for merchandising more than 120 products in more than 15 categories in the Cleveland region. Following, he held a variety of roles at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, where he focused on partnering with customers on innovative supply chain contracting and pharmacy trade marketing programming. In his current role at Boehringer Ingelheim, Belknap is a recognized expert in the area of fee-for-service contracts and pharmacy marketing, including medication therapy management, patient adherence and compliance.


Presented at the HDMA Business and Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla., the Nexus Award represents the distribution industry’s highest achievement, recognizing exceptional character, accomplishments and leadership in HDMA, the industry and community.


“An active supporter of the distribution industry, Bob is the embodiment of the Nexus Award, both in his contributions to this industry and his community,” stated HDMA president and CEO John Gray, “We congratulate him on this notable achievement.”


 Belknap also is an active supporter of HDMA and the Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research, participating in the Association’s Industry Relations Council, most notably, serving as chairman of the Center’s board of directors in 2009 and 2010. He continues to sit on the board today.   


Karen Ribler, EVP and COO of the Center for Healthcare Supply Chain Research, noted Belknap’s contributions to the foundation, reflecting, “The Center owes a great deal to Bob’s strong leadership. ... The financial success achieved during his years as chairman, and his unwavering support for such projects as the HDMA Factbook and the annual CEO Roundtable fundraiser provided a foundation that strengthened the Center’s brand in the years to follow.”


A native of Horseheads, N.Y., Belknap and his family have supported numerous charities in their community of Southbury, Conn., including the Boy Scouts of America; the American Field Service, a student-hosting group; and Family Services of Greater Waterbury, as well as the HPH Hospice of Hudson, Fla.
