Costco August same store sales up 9 percent

ISSAQUAH, Wash. Costco reported a 9 percent increase in same-store sale for August, slightly below the expectations of analysts.

Total sales for the month rose 12 percent to $5.41 billion and sales for the fourth quarter ended Aug. 31 were also up 12 percent to $22.60 billion. The company did not break out pharmacy sales as a separate item.

Preliminary net sales for the fiscal year ended Aug. 31 were $70.95 billion, up 12 percent from the previous year, and same-store sales for the year increased 8 percent. Costco will report its full fourth-quarter and fiscal-year results on Oct. 8.
