CVS Health brings all-girls softball team to Fenway Park

8/1/2017

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — CVS Health and the Boston Red Sox on Monday teamed up to bring an all-girls softball team to Fenway park for the CVS Health Batting Camp. Members of the Suffield, Conn., Pink Pugs got to learn from Red Sox hitting coach Chili Davis and assistant hitting coach Victor Rodriguez, completed an on-field batting practice, posed for photos in front of the Green Monster, and had lunch in the Red Sox dugout.

“We are thrilled to host the Pink Pugs — our first-ever, all-girls team — and to partner with the Boston Red Sox for the 13th season,” CVS Health SVP corporate responsibility and philanthropy Eileen Howard Boone said. “We’re honored to extend this once-in-a-lifetime experience to new players each year. Seeing the smiles on their faces as they work with the Boston Red Sox hitting coaches and take in Fenway Park supports our commitment to help children of all abilities to be the best that they can be and brings our purpose of helping people on their path to better health to life.”

The team also got a VIP tour of Fenway Park, got a visit from Red Sox mascot Wally the Green Monster, got early access to Red Sox batting practice and received tickets to Monday night’s game in the CVS Pharmacy Family section. Monday’s Batting Camp was the latest in a longstanding partnership between CVS Health and the team, and is one of nine camps that CVS Health will host at Fenway Park this year for New England children of all abilities.

“We were ecstatic when CVS Health contacted us to let us know we had been selected for a CVS Health Batting Camp,” Pink Pugs coach Dan Holmes said. “The essential goal of Suffield Little League is to encourage children of all abilities to play on one team so they may learn new skills from each other and grow as both players and individuals. We couldn’t think of a better way to fulfill this goal than with an opportunity for our team to receive tips from Boston Red Sox hitting coaches on the field at Fenway Park. Thank you, CVS Health and the Boston Red Sox, for this amazing opportunity.”
