12/20/2016

WOONSOCKET, R.I. — During a celebration Tuesday at company headquarters, CVS Health announced its Charity Classic golf event raised more than $1 million to New England area charities.

The CVS Health Charity Classic also reached a milestone this year by surpassing a total of $20 million of philanthropic support to hundreds of nonprofits.

“The CVS Health Charity Classic has an 18-year history of supporting the meaningful work being done by nonprofits in Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island,” Larry Merlo, CVS CEO, said. “We are proud to reach this major milestone in donations made that enables us to give back to those who need it most in the areas of health care, education and social services.”

One of the charities receiving support from CVS is the Red Sox Foundation. Former Boston Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield was on hand at company headquarters to thank CVS for its charitable efforts.

“Support from the CVS Health Charity Classic has been instrumental in allowing us to fulfill our mission of serving the health, education, recreation and social service needs of children and families across New England,” Wakefield said. “We are grateful for our partnership and look forward to continuing to work together in the future.”

In addition to the Red Sox Foundation, 90 nonprofits from Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts will benefit from the CVS Health Charity Classic. The 2017 CVS Health Charity Classic will take place on June 18, 2017 at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, R.I.
