CVS Health chief medical officer explains #BeTheFirst campaign

3/31/2016

WOONSOCKET, R.I. - CVS Health chief medical officer Troy Brennan on Wednesday discussed the vision behind CVS Health's March 10 announcement to #BeTheFirst tobacco-free generation.

Over the next five years, CVS Health has committed $50 million toward the accomplishment of three objectives:

  1. Decrease by 10% the number of new smokers among young people;

  2. Double the number of colleges and universities with smoke-free campuses; and

  3. Drive a 3% reduction in the overall prevalence of smoking among young adults and students.

"The company's decision to eliminate tobacco products from the stores obviously provided impetus to this particular campaign," Brennan said. "We recognize that just taking tobacco out of the stores is something that is important but can be built on. And we feel like we have a voice now in this area and people are willing to listen to us."

In addition to the interview with Brennan, CVS Health also posted the following video on the launch of its #BeTheFirst campaign.
