CVS Pharmacy becomes exclusive drug store for ADA diabetes initiative

5/31/2016

WOONSOCKET, R.I. - The American Diabetes Association on Tuesday named CVS Pharmacy, the retail division of CVS Health, the exclusive drug store for "Partner in Healthy Living," a new initiative with the nation's leading voluntary health organization committed to advancing the research, prevention, care and treatment of diabetes.

Both organizations will be focused on raising awareness and funding to help "Stop Diabetes."

"We are committed to making it easier for our customers living with diabetes to find the right products and expertise to help them manage their disease," stated Judy Sansone, SVP front store business for CVS Pharmacy and chief merchant for CVS Health. "CVS Pharmacy is a leading health destination with expert pharmacists and an easy to navigate diabetes management section featuring a wide assortment of products from glucose monitors and testing strips to sugar-free snacks."

To support the new effort, CVS Pharmacy has launched a digital hub, www.cvs.com/diabetes-care, developed in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association that features exclusive diabetes health and nutrition content, including research to help people on their path to better health. The digital hub will also feature the ability for consumers to donate directly to the American Diabetes Association.

In addition, CVS Pharmacy will have designated retail displays in many stores featuring products and information to help people with diabetes.

"This collaboration with CVS Pharmacy will help us reach millions of Americans with valuable information to improve their health and management of their diabetes" said Jonathan Webb,VP corporate alliances for the American Diabetes Association. "We appreciate CVS Pharmacy's engagement and collaboration, both in stores and online, so that we can continue to reach the public in meaningful ways to prevent diabetes and to improve the lives of millions with diabetes."

"CVS Pharmacy is committed to supporting our patients with diabetes," added Josh Flum, EVP, pharmacy services for CVS Health. "This partnership will help give our pharmacists the most up-to-date knowledge on diabetes, so they can be true partners for those patients managing this condition."

To help spread awareness of diabetes across its more than 7,900 stores, CVS Pharmacy will use its in-store radio channel to broadcast diabetes awareness messaging and also include call-outs in its weekly sales circulars that encourage customers to donate to help Stop Diabetes. Customers will also see weekly sales offers that feature discounts on products that help people live well with diabetes, including glucose meters and glucose dietary products.
