CVS/pharmacy to open distribution center in N.Y.

6/2/2009

NEW YORK CVS/pharmacy has finalized plans to open a new distribution center in Chemung County in New York that will be in operation in 2011.

Construction of the 750,000-sq.-ft. facility is expected to begin this summer. When it is complete, the center will employ about 600 people, announced Governor David Paterson.

The new center will support the inventory and fulfillment needs of about 350 CVS/pharmacy stores in the region.

Empire State Development will provide the company with a $4 million JOBS Now Capital grant to be disbursed in 2011. In addition to the ESD's grant, the New York State Division of Housing and Community Renewal will provide a $750,000 grant to Chemung County through the New York State Community Development Block Grant program.

"We want to thank Chemung County and the state of New York for their support during the negotiation and approval process. The cooperation we received from Governor Paterson, Dennis Mullen and the team at Empire State Development, George Miner and Jamie Johnson from the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency, and Chemung County executive Tom Santulli was instrumental in our decision to build our new distribution center here," stated SVP logistics for CVS/pharmacy Ron Link. "This is an ideal location to support the hundreds of CVS/pharmacy stores in the region. We are excited to be joining the Chemung County community."
