EDGEWOOD, Md. — In an international head-to-head study, researchers found that the dietary supplement Cosamin DS and the Brazilian prescription glucosamine/chondroitin brand are equally effective, with statistically significant results achieved.
Nutramax Labs' Cosamin DS was chosen as the comparator in a human clinical study recently published by Provenza et al. in the peer-reviewed journal Clinical Rheumatology, the company reported Wednesday.
“The authors make a point to stress ‘there are concerns on the purity of glucosamine/chondroitin preparations sold as dietary supplements,’” said Robert Henderson, chairman of Nutramax. “Cosamin DS, since its inception, has been the gold standard when it comes to quality.”
"My father, Dr. Robert Henderson, developed, patented and brought to the market the first glucosamine hydrochloride, chondroitin sulfate joint health product, Cosamin,” Troy Henderson, president and CEO of Nutramax Laboratories Consumer Care, said. “It remains a high-quality, trusted brand backed by clinical studies."
“For over two decades, we have taken pride in knowing our Cosamin brand contains quality ingredients with formulations rooted in rigorous and sound science,” said Brian Cornblatt, medical director and director of product development for Nutramax Laboratories Consumer Care. “Here we have a truly impressive study, with more than 900 participants recruited from 16 different sites. We work tirelessly to offer the public a brand they can trust and it was nice to see Cosamin’s efficacy again substantiated in this study.”
