Google debuts shopping app

NEW YORK Google is helping shoppers gain product information with its new mobile application, Google Shopper.

How it works: Through a Google-developed site, Android Market, the new application allows people to use their camera phones to get product information. Users can scan such images as the cover art of books, electronics and most barcodes to find reviews, pricing and other product details. The searches also can be saved for future reference, according to reports.

Last year, the Web giant introduced barcode scanning through Google Product Search for Android-power phones in the United States and United Kingdom.
