Gordon Food Services acquires Albertsons distribution center

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. Gordon Food Service has acquired Albertsons' distribution center in Plant City, Fla., which marks the company's 12th distribution center in the United States and its third in Florida.

The 1 million-sq.-ft. facility occupies a 158-acre site in Hillsborough County between Tampa and Orlando. The site will employ more than 350 people when it is operating at full capacity.

In addition to delivering products to food service operators, Gordon Food Service also operates nine GFS Marketplace stores in Florida and 132 stores in the United States. Two more GFS Marketplace stores will be opened in 2010, one in North Tampa and another in Bradenton. The purchase of the Plant City distribution center positions Gordon Food Service to accelerate its GFS Marketplace store growth plans in Florida.
