Hy-Vee officially enters the market in September with two stores and plans on making Minneapolis home to the company's largest grossing stores as measured in sales volume. “We see this is as being our largest market some day,” Randy Edeker, Hy-Vee CEO and chairman of the National Association of Chain Drug Stores told the Star Tribune in an interview last week. “Over the next 10 years, we see steady growth here.”
Hy-Vee already has land deals in place for an additional two stores, which should open in the second half of 2016. With these four stores as a base, Hy-Vee plans on opening four to five additional supermarkets in the Minneapolis-St. Paul market every year.
According to the Tribune, Cub Foods leads the market.
