Introducing GoHealthEvents.com

4/11/2016

To help connect the growing numbers of consumers looking to take greater control of their own health care, with the growing number of in-store health fairs and disease screening events that are being held every day at drug stores, supermarkets, mass merchandisers and warehouse clubs all across the country, Lebhar-Friedman — the parent company of Drug Store News — has launched GoHealthEvents.com.

The new site, which went live in February in time for National Heart Health Month, allows users to quickly and easily search for free health services, screenings and events in their area. GoHealthEvents.com users also are able to create profiles and sign up to receive email alerts for upcoming events matching the conditions and/or services they are interested in.

In addition, pharmacy retailers, retail clinics and other healthcare networks also are able to register on the site and post their health events on GoHealthEvents.com. Employers also may leverage Go Health Events to help keep healthcare costs low and improve employee health.

“The Go Health Events platform will enable consumers, patients and caregivers to conveniently locate community-based health events and health screenings in their local area,” said Go Health Events managing director Wayne Bennett. “As high co-pay and high-deductible health plans continue to encourage consumers to become more in control of their health care, Go Health Events will help provide access to free and low-cost programs to help reduce health expenses.”

Amid the pressures of an aging population, the increasing challenge of chronic disease in the United States, and a squeeze in healthcare access as a shrinking pool of primary care physicians grapple with ever-growing caseloads of patients, a remarkable expansion of health events and free diagnostic services offered by chain and independent pharmacies is helping to meet the increasing demands on our nation’s healthcare system.

“We know people today are extremely busy, and taking time for their personal health can sometimes be a challenge. By offering free health screenings, we are giving people easier access to critical information that can set them on the path to better managing their health,” Jill Turner-Mitchael, SVP consumables and health-and-wellness for Sam’s Club, told DSN earlier this year.

As of April, chains including Walgreens/Duane Reade, Rite Aid, Sam’s Club, Albertsons, Costco, Ahold USA and Meijer had signed on to GoHealthEvents.com, with hundreds of events listed on the site.

Pfizer Consumer Healthcare has signed on as the initial sponsor. “At Pfizer, we have a passion to improve consumers’ lives by empowering them to take health and wellness into their own hands. The Go Health Events site is a tool enabling consumers to do just that,” said Lisa Paley, chief customer officer at Pfizer.

Bennett added, “Our mission is to become an important healthcare path to purchase and enhance store visits, increase consumer/patient interaction with pharmacists and other members of the retail healthcare team, and help patients improve their health status and lower costs.”
