Jewel-Osco donates more than $100K to support Muscular Dystrophy Association
ITASCA, Ill. — With the generosity from thousands of Jewel-Osco shoppers, the company recently presented the Muscular Dystrophy Association with a check for $110,000 in funds donated by Jewel-Osco shoppers for use toward the organization’s Summer Camp program.
Jewel-Osco shoppers were able to donate $1, $3 or $5 at the register from May 1 through 31. Thanks for the donations, more than 130 children will go to MDA Summer Camp this year paid for by these funds.
The Jewel-Osco store team presented the check to MDA representatives in Chicago during the store’s grand re-opening on June 25. Jewel-Osco grand opened five new store locations on June 24, and unveiled 14 total grand re-openings on June 25.
At MDA camp, kids with neuromuscular disease discover a world created specifically for them, and meet many other kids sharing the same needs and experiences. The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a nonprofit health agency dedicated to finding treatments and cures for muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other neuromuscular diseases. MDA funds worldwide research; provides healthcare services and support to MDA families nationwide; and rallies communities to fight back through advocacy, fundraising and local engagement.
The MDA mobile program benefits local families affected by muscular dystrophy and related diseases by helping to support MDA’s programs of research and healthcare services, including sending local kids to a weeklong, barrier-free MDA summer camp at Timber Pointe Outdoor Center in Hudson, Ill.
