Jewel-Osco Hunger Relief Program funding area food pantries, soup kitchens
ITASCA, Ill. Applications are now being accepted by Jewel-Osco for its “Hunger Relief Grant Program,” designed to fund the operational needs of food pantries and soup kitchens.
The leading Midwest food and drug retailer is entering its second year with the $300,000 block grant program. In conjuction with three fellow “Feeding America” area food banks (Greater Chicago Food Depository, Northern Illinois Food Bank and Food Bank of Northwest Indiana), Jewel-Osco is giving qualified agencies the opportunity to apply for grants of up to $2,500 for the purpose of improving operational efficiency and maximizing existing resources.
"This program will enable us to provide more food for our neighbors in need," said Angie Williams, executive director of the FBNI. "In the midst of an economic crisis, it is such a blessing to see Jewel-Osco extend a helping hand to our agencies that are on the frontlines battling hunger. We are so thankful for their support."
Grant application forms will be available online through the company Websites for any of the partnership companies and current member applications will be send by mail. All applications are due Aug. 14 by mail. Grants will be awarded this November.
