Loblaw drops plans for Nutshell health store pilot

2/10/2014

BRAMPTON, Ontario — Loblaw Cos. has reportedly pulled the plug on its Nutshell health and wellness store concept as it shifts its focus to the purchase of Shoppers Drug Mart, according to a local news report.

According to CBC News, the Canadian grocer was looking to open its first pilot store in Toronto, but has delayed the planned fall opening.

A company spokesperson was reported as saying that, while it remains on the company’s roster of format options, it has no plans to open any Nutshell locations at this time.

According to the news report, Loblaw had initially positioned the concept as a “convenience-based, fresh food-led drug store model” that would sell “fresh, natural and health food and living ideas. In-store advisers, called Health Nuts, would help connect shoppers to local health experts and community seminars on healthier living.
