Missouri bill requires prescription dispensing fees paid for partial fills due to med sync programs

MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. — According to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, a Missouri bill would require health benefit plans to reimburse pharmacies when they dispense less than a 30-day supply for the purpose of synchronizing a patient’s chronic medications. 

Further, the bill would prohibit plans from prorating dispensing fees based on a calculation of the days' supply of medication dispensed. "Dispensing fees shall be determined exclusively on the total number of prescriptions dispensed," the bill reads. 

The bill also would require reimbursement when “the prescriber or pharmacist indicates the fill or refill could be in the best interest of the patient.”
