GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The National Association of Professional Women on Tuesday honored Dawn Jackman as the 2014 Professional Woman of the Year.

The National Association of Professional Women is a networking community with more than 600,000 members and nearly 400 Local Chapters.

“I am constantly conveying what is allowable and isn’t allowable as per the regulations and risks involved with these decisions,” Jackman said, speaking to her responsibilities as associate director, regulatory affairs at Bayer Healthcare.

Jackman, who holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and finance from the New York Institute of Technology, did not start out her professional life with the intention to work in regulatory affairs. But her excellent interpersonal skills, keen ability to interpret regulations and strong emphasis on detail caught the attention of a co-worker who encouraged her to pursue a career in in this field. She took that person’s advice and was soon hired for a position in the regulatory department.

More than 20 years later, Jackman has gone on to enjoy a successful career where she provides regulatory guidance/assessments, expertise and support for global development project teams to help drive the business; interacts and negotiates with the Food and Drug Administration as a regulatory liaison; and reviews/approves labeling and advertising. “I also coach, train and supervise the Rutgers Post-Doctorate Regulatory Fellow as a preceptor/mentor, represent BHC and participate on industry task force teams and compile, review and submit submissions to FDA,” she said.

With an eye to the future, Jackman plans to become more involved in the Women Leadership Initiative at Bayer and looks forward to growing professionally within the company, as well as to continue to support her community and church.
