NJCU to honor Amneal's Chirag Patel

5/22/2014

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Chirag Patel — co-CEO, chairman and co-founder of Amneal Pharmaceuticals — will be honored with the Alumnus of Distinction Award at New Jersey City University’s American Dream Gala on June 5.

Patel started Amneal Pharmaceuticals with his brother Chintu in 2002. Since that time, Amneam has grown to be the seventh largest generic pharmaceutical company in the United States by prescriptions dispensed, with revenues exceeding $450 million. In 2011, the brothers were named Ernst & Young National Entrepreneur of the Year Life Sciences Award winners in recognition of their accomplishments.

“Chirag epitomizes the drive and determination we see from our students on a daily basis,” NJCU president Sue Henderson said. “We applaud his great success and his commitment to helping others achieve their own dreams.”

The goal of the American Dream Gala is to raise scholarship funds for students planning to attend NJCU, a four-year state university with a student population of more than 8,400 undergraduate and graduate students. More than 50 nations are represented in the student body; 85% of full-time undergraduates at NJCU receive some kind of need-based financial aid.
