New England regional summit held to address opioid abuse
NEW YORK — In an effort to address opioid drug abuse, governors of five New England states convened for a summit on Monday, the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy stated.
According to the NABP, the summit was part of Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick’s plan to address abuse of prescription painkillers and heroin, and included discussion of how state law enforcement agencies can better coordinate to keep illegal drugs and diverted prescription drugs from crossing state lines.
In March, Patrick declared the opioid addiction epidemic a public health emergency in Massachusetts.
