Nutracheck introduces bar code scanning app for U.K. users

9/19/2011

NOTTINGHAM, England — U.K.-based weight-loss program Nutracheck has introduced its Calorie Counter application for the iPhone, designed to scan bar codes of more than 10,000 products in the U.K. food database.

How it works: The new iPhone calorie counter app, part of Nutracheck's online diet service, allows users to focus on a product bar code, click to capture a photo of the bar code, then add it to the food diary, which adds up one's daily calorie intake. For members of Nutracheck's online food and exercise diary service, the app adds a new dimension, the company said.

The app, which can be downloaded on iTunes here, is free to members of Nutracheck; however, nonmembers also can try the free "lite" version, the company said.

Nutracheck.co.uk was developed with U.K. weight-loss expert Ian Campbell, who founded the National Obesity Forum.
