One reason pain patient advocates are so passionate about what they do is because they are pain patients themselves — they know the stigma associated with chronic pain; they know how difficult it can be to access appropriate pain therapy sometimes. That’s the story of Gina Libby, volunteer pain patient advocate who has lived with chronic pain for more than 20 years. She connected to the American Pain Foundation and became a state leader for California Collaborations. She has also worked with patient advocacy organizations like the U.S. Pain Foundation and the American Chronic Pain Association. Libby has a regulatory background that morphed into the legislative and regulatory advocacy she does today with SPPAN, the State Pain Policy Advocacy Network.
