Pedigree seeks to help shelter dogs with QR code initiative

9/9/2011

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Pedigree is encouraging Walmart shoppers to help feed homeless dogs by scanning the QR code on any package of Pedigree sold at Walmart with their smartphone.

Every QR code scanned represents one bowl of Pedigree food for dogs, which the brand will donate to an animal shelter (up to 500,000 8-oz. bowls).

The technology-driven initiative is part of the "Pets Love Walmart" month, whereby Walmart facilitates a dialogue about pet ownership by hosting weekly education demonstrations and displaying local shelter information on-shelf for ways to donate to a pet in need.

"This program is truly revolutionary because it marks a new frontier in generating awareness and support for the plight of shelter dogs," Pedigree senior brand manager Lisa Campbell said. "At Pedigree, our love for dogs is our driving passion so we were thrilled to facilitate yet another way people can make a difference in the life of a shelter dog. Scan a code, help a dog. It's that easy."
