Publix announces plans to build clinic for local DC employees

11/29/2007

LAKELAND, Fla. Publix Super Markets is planning on building a 1,400-square foot clinic near its manufacturing facilities to treat minor injuries that occur in the company’s local distribution centers and plants, according to spokeswoman Shannon Patten.

It will deal exclusively in “less severe” injuries such as sprains and cuts, Patten said, and will be operated by an outside vendor. It will be the company’s second clinic; Publix opened the first in Deerfield Beach two years ago.

“We chose Lakeland because we needed a clinic to provide treatment for all our warehousing, support and nearby retail associates who may have sustained work-related injuries,” Patten said.

Officials are still in the permitting process, but Patten said the clinic is expected to open in the first quarter of 2008.
