RBC 2016 CE sessions to offer actionable insights into pharmacy, business growth

5/23/2016

Alongside the networking opportunities, business insights and vendor access that will be available at Cardinal Health RBC 2016, in July, undoubtedly, one of the event’s cornerstones is its extensive offering of continuing education courses for attendees. With more than 40 CE courses running the gamut from clinical service expansion to marketing and business development, RBC 2016 will send attendees home with several actionable ideas to drive business growth and achieve meaningful patient outcomes.

Among this year’s CE offerings are a host of sessions from the American Pharmacists Association centered on pharmacy services. On Wednesday, July 20 at RBC 2016, APhA experts will be hosting certificate courses for delivering medication therapy management, immunizations and pharmacy-based travel health services.

Another large growth driver is specialty pharmacy, and Cardinal Health Specialty Solutions’ pharmacy operations management director Sean Raynak, vice president industry relations Nick Calla and vice president Medicine Shoppe International, Inc. John Fiacco will discuss leading trends in specialty pharmacy and how independents and their patients can gain access to the growing class of drugs for complex chronic conditions.

Education sessions this year also will tackle the issues of how pharmacists can play a larger role in health care. Ohio Northern University professor and endowed chair of its department of pharmacy practice Jenelle Sobotka will offer two sessions on “Pursuing new Payment Models in Pharmacy – Provider Status and Beyond.” Sobotka will discuss changing payment models and the progress the pharmacy profession has made toward gaining provider status under Medicare Part B.

Pharmacy Quality Solutions’ vice president professional relationship Elliot Sogol will outline the impact that Medicare Star ratings will have on pharmacies and how attendees can take proactive steps to better meet Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ standards.

Led by OutcomesMTM’s network performance senior associate Dan Rodriguez, the session “MTM and Stars 2016: Embracing the Challenges and Opportunities for Pharmacy in the Evolving Healthcare Environment” will offer insights into how pharmacists can identify and implement MTM programs in their pharmacies as a way to improve patient outcomes.

In the session, “Care Transitions: Roles for Pharmacy,” Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University dean Steven Martin will highlight the role pharmacy can play in hospital-to-home transition programs, which can also help drive positive new revenue sources.

RBC 2016 also will feature several CE sessions aimed at helping attendees grow their brands and profits. Attendees looking to either purchase or sell a pharmacy will gain insights from Cardinal Health vice president pharmacy transition services Dave Ellis, who will lead the session “Keys to Entering or Exiting Ownership, Valuing the Pharmacy” on Thursday, July 21. And Cardinal Health business resource services chairman Steven LaFever will share his “7 Key Gross Profit Drivers,” offering a roadmap for owners to ensure they’re maximizing gross profit.

With the exception of the APhA certification sessions on MTM, immunizations and travel health, all sessions will be accredited by the Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University — both Ohio Northern University and APhA are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
