Report: Wegmans to expand in New England market

McLEAN, Va. In a recent interview with the news agency Gannett, Wegmans’ senior executive team outlined its soon-to-be expansion plans into the New England area, with a first store in Northborough, Mass., expected to open its doors sometime in 2011.

"We see our growth in a defined crescent between Washington and Boston, extending from Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland and up into Massachusetts," Wegmans CEO Danny Wegman told the news agency. "We're looking at Connecticut."

The extension into New England is expected to be gradual, however, with one or two new store openings per year.
