Safeway raises $17 million for breast cancer research
PLEASANTON, Calif. Safeway is donating $17 million to breast cancer research following a month-long fund-raising campaign at its 1,738 stores. The company made the announcement in Washington D.C. where it was being recognized for its corporate giving at the 2007 U.S. Chamber of Commerce Corporate Citizenship Awards.
“Our employees, customers and suppliers are passionate about finding a cure for breast cancer and the results of our month-long campaign will fund important research and prevention programs,” said Larree Renda, Safeway’s executive vice president and chair of the Safeway Foundation.
Overall, Safeway has raised and donated more than $70 million for cancer research in the past six years.
